yes, it doesnt seem to work with sp3, which just came out a few weeks ago. I think those steps apply to sp1 or earlier

Windows XP SP3 Product Key Changer
I would like to change the Windows XP Product Key. I was able to use microsoft key updater tool with sp2 but this does not work with SP3.
Do you know of a product key changer for sp3?

This is an approach I have taken on Windows XP before. You can use the sysprep utility to reset the GUID and force the minisetup to run again next time the system boots. The Minisetup will ask for the product code.
Something to watch though, if, for example, you have used a Volume Lisence installation CD and are attempting to use an OEM product key, it probably won't work.

You want to use the "To manually restore the computer to an enduserready state with Sysprep" section of the document.
