Zebra Z4m Printer not spooling

Hi,

hopefully someone can help me on this problem.

We have a Z4M Zebra printer, which is used to print labels, the label consists of both text and Lines.  The label is designed in crystal reports.  Last week the lines disapeared, i resolved this issue with this driver 01/10/2008,7.1.4.0.  However, now the printer prints every label with a 5-6 second pause.  I have reverted back to previous drivers i.e 2.3, 2.4 ZUD 5571, etc all to no avail.  Normally when 100 labels are printed it prints the labels very quickly and there is very little pause between each label.  The LCD dispaly panel on the printer displays "Printing 1 of 1" for every label, this makes me think the job is not being spooled.

In an attempt to speed up the printing i have adjusted the Print speed to 152.40mm/sec, Slew and Backfeed speeds to 254mm/sec but i'm still left with that 5-6 second pause.

the PC is runiing windows xp sp2 and has all the latest patches

Any help, ideas, suggestions gratefully accepted.

Check label type and darkness settings.

No change has been made to label type and i've checked darkness settings, this was one of the first things i looked at.
It sounds like you've spent quite a bit of time trying different driver settings, so I'm assuming the issue lies elsewhere.

Have you tried updating the printer firmware?
Does the printer pause when printing multiple labels from another application?
Are you printing through a print server?  If not, how is the printer connected to the PC?
Is the PC low on disk space (for spool files) or memory (is there a lot of hard drive activity when printing?)
I've gotten the company that services the printer to come onsite and we've found the problem isn't with the printer.  if you create a blank crystal (ver 8) report with some text and lines, etc  and with no database (sql server 2000) added, the printer prints the page fine and with excellant speed.  This particular label is linked to a stored procedure which queries a table.  I looked at the table and it had about a million rows.  I've now gotten a spare printer that i've hooked up to my laptop and re-created the Live envirnment in our test system, so i deleted all but 5 rows from this table, thinking it might be the lookup to the table casuing the problem, however it's not the problem still occurs.  I need to investigate whether the crystal reports runtime engine is the problem.
tmutchler:to answer your questions

1 - Firmware.  No haven't updated it (looks as though there is no need)
2 - No the printer doesn't pause when printing from other applications
3 - No printing is done through LTP1
4 - PC has plenty of disk space and no not much HD activity.

Thanks,

Mike
In the interest of giving as much information as possible:

When i hit pause on the printer: and wait for 10 minutes the labels come out of the printer at proper speed with no pause.  if you look at the printer spooling icon in the windows notification are you can see each of the individual labels being added one at a time slowly.  If the printer catches up with the spooling it begins to print at the slow speed.
