Asked by: huntersp3

Hello Experts:

I have a user that is running the latest service packs on Auto Cad 2008 which is on a Windows XP Machine with service pack 3.  We are getting serveral Unhandled Exception C0000005 violations and I can't find a solution for the problem.  This may not even be Autocad related...it could be a windows problem.  This is a new Dell computer that i right out of the box with all the lastest updates and fresh install of Autocad 2008 with the lastest service packs.  Any help in solving the issue is appreciated.

Thanks

Since AutoCAD is graphics intensive, the first thing I would look at is the video driver version.

I have no idea what your Dell is using for a video driver, but I would look to Dell for the latest release, or, if you have the latest release, install a slightly older version since the most current could be buggy and cause your C5 errors within AutoCAD.

Exception in c:\program files\autocad 2002\acdim.arx ARX Command
Unhandled Exception C0000005 (Access Violation Reading 0x0000). at address 7*******h

It states that this problem occurs when creating linear dimensions in paper space in layouts if you use the Center object snap to select the center points of circles in model space.    A recommended work around is as follows>>

When the center point AutoSnap" marker is displayed, select the circle, instead of the center point.

A C0000005 error is a general Windows environment error and can get generated by any app within Windows.  I have seen it from errors in at least three other Windows applications I can think of.
