Question

Access violation 0x0000005 at several places

Hello,

I've got this problem with Windows XP.

Checked for malware & virus with Adaware, Spybot & Avast already and nothing is found.

In many programs, the program crashes with Access Violation error (0x0000005)

- In Internet Explorer, when typing a URL in the address bar
- Starting mmc.exe
- Starting gpedit.exe
- Starting rstrui.exe (So to say that doing a restore point could be an option if it worked!)
- In VB .Net, I have a prog that uses the webbrowser control, does the same when navigating to the URL. It worked fine before.

Does anyone have a clue?

If you have an XP CD, you may have no choice but to do a repair install. This will re-install all of the windows files but leave your applications and personal files intact. You do not want to do this from the rerpair console. Say that you want to install, then pick the option for a repair. Another option may be to re-install Service Pack 2.

I reinstalled SP2, but the problem was still here.

Finally, I uninstalled IE7, and with IE6 all is fine. None of the programs are crashing.

What do you think? Should I download and install IE7 back?

I think I prefer to wait a while before doing this. At least I made a restore point.
