XP Home product key change

Acer Aspire 3500 laptop
XP Home Edition

I am trying to repair this laptop for someone.
This laptop is severly infected with viruses and has other windows corruption.  I would like to just format and re-install windows.  This laptop has a legal "XP Home Certificate of Authentication" sticker on it with a valid product key.

The end user does NOT have any CDs that came with this laptop.  The Acer Erecovery creation software is nowhere to be found on this laptop.

I have a Windows XP Home CD I could use but the product key is obviously not the same as the one on the laptop.  How can I install XP and chnage the product key to the one that is on their COA?
