Dead Windows (Services all terminated)

Asked by Angelp1ay in Windows XP Operating System

Tags: , , ,

My neighbour has had a slight disaster with her computer. She initially noticed it because the internet connection disappeared. I believe the issue was caused by running "Fix all registry issues" in CCleaner. From what I can understand:

- Computer is Windows XP
- Device Manager is empty - nothing shown at all.
- services.msc shows only 7 services running, and comparison to my work laptop which was running ~20 this seemed very low.
- When trying to activate a service it complains that "Plug and Play is missing" (sorry I don't have the exact error message).

I did a quick google and it seemed to suggest that Plug and Play came from services.exe - this is however present on the system.

I'll need a very detailled description of what the problem is and how to fix this because I don't have continuous access to the computer to fix it.Start Free Trial
