I am having several problems with sluggishness in Windows XP SP2 and i don't know if they are all related. So here is the rundown of what i am seeing.
Click on start and then mouse over programs, it can take nearly a minute for the list of programs to propogate. The list is not that long and i have seen lists 3 times as long done in no time at all.
When double clicking on a file to open, particularily image files, Windows can take 2 minutes or more to open the file. Also the system essentially locks up during this time. When they do open in Windows picture and fax viewer, you can scroll thru all the pics in that area without issue, but if you close it and double click on the same file it goes thru the whole 2+ minute process again. This is also true of doubleclicking on excel or word documents.
Now if you open the base program first, excel for example, and then open the file, it is instant. Have seen other posts here that say this could be caused by dead links and i have cleaned all those of and still it persists.
Here are the machine specs
Alienware 3 ghz p4 processor
1.5 gb ram
240 gb hard drive
Thanks. Any help is greatly appreciated.
