This is more of a "settle the debate" kind of question. A discussion recently came up between myself and a couple tech friends on old programs, and I mentioned about uninstalling unused programs to make my system more stable. They scoffed at my opinion, saying that besides freeing up disk space, removing old programs would have no advantage. I personally feel there could be pieces running at startup (which I could look for in the obvious places, true), or maybe services being used unnecessarily, maybe resources being used. I feel like old programs being unused could also cause system instability if they were written poorly or run into a conflict with other software/hardware running on the system. What do you all think? Am I looking at this all wrong? I just really want to learn.
