I don't think you can do anything but backup your documents on the hard drive (put drive in another machine for example to extract your data) and format and re-install your OS.

Difference hardware (HAL) is an issue. As suggestions above, you should run XP repair installation that will fix the issue. If you want do so, please see the link:

After done that you should able to boot system into windows, then install hardware drivers.

u need to do a repair install because the drivers are all wrong. and you most likely will have to reactive xp again
