Question

Upgraded Windows XP Pro SP2 system from AMD to Intel. OS won't boot.

I reset the BIOS to default with no success.  System goes through POST, then loads the boot option screen.  OS won't boot in Normal mode or in Safe mode.

u need to do a repair install because the drivers are all wrong.  and you most likely will have to reactive xp again

I don't think you can do anything but backup your documents on the hard drive (put drive in another machine for example to extract your data) and format and re-install your OS.

insert the xp disc and boot from it, select the second repair option and it'll be smooth sailing, you shouldn't even make to it the part about partitioning your drive or formatting them.

boot through windows xp cd as if you are going to install fresh windows xp , it will ask you if you want to repair existing OS.
it will try to repair the system and keep your files and programs their.

Difference hardware (HAL) is an issue. As suggestions above, you should run XP repair installation that will fix the issue. If you want do so, please see the link:

After done that you should able to boot system into windows, then install hardware drivers.

i would recommend a fresh install in this case, sin,ce all drivers from the start are wrong - no repair install (it may even not work)
