The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How do I get rid of a very strange entry in Control Panel's "Add or Remove Programs" list?

Asked by colinasad in Windows XP Operating System

In my Windows XP Professional Contol Panel I have a very strange entry the "Add or Remove Programs" list.
I have attached a Word document showing the top, middle and end of this entry.
It is a series of long black and white solid blocks that go on and on for centimetres. There is no text attached to this entry which does not display a "Change" or "Remove" button either.
The small block on the right-hand vertical scroll bar shows how long this entry is. There are only a couple of programs above and below this one in the list, but the "scrolling block" is very small and indicates how long the list is.
This was a cleaned-out PC just back from the repair shop where a new motherboard had been installed. I had tried (for the first time ever) to install an "msi" file that I had created on another PC that hopefully contained an "Access 2007 adp Project" with an Access 2007 "runtime" bundled in. That seemed to "install" OK on the PC but doesn't seem to work properly. The "Access Runtime" program was displayed in the "Add or Remove Programs" list but my own application name isn't, but it does appear in my "Start - All Programs" list.
I did this msi installation before I had installed my old copy of MS Office 97 Professional that I used to run on this PC. Perhaps I should have installed Office first.
Has anyone seen anything like this before, and is there any way I can get rif of it?

Many thanks. Colin.
