by: CTSLAPosted on 2008-12-09 at 14:33:01ID: 23134551

alright please explain as though you were speaking to a small child.

by: robbhillPosted on 2008-12-09 at 14:33:56ID: 23134555

Go to the Run item on the Start menu, and type:

regsvr32 <path & filename of dll or ocx>

by: robbhillPosted on 2008-12-09 at 14:34:35ID: 23134559

if you naviage to the file using windows explorer..you should be able to copy and paste the path:)

You can also reinstall the broadcom wireless utility and then it should be fine.

http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/downloaddrivers.php

or connect to your manufacturers website (www.dell.com/support) and then download their driver.

That's if it is a Dell.

so it would  be "regsv32 c:windows/system" ?

by: robbhillPosted on 2008-12-09 at 14:52:59ID: 23134719

yes...but dont forget the filename as well

by: MightySWPosted on 2008-12-09 at 14:56:42ID: 23134741

regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\COMCTL32.dll

is the command.

by: CTSLAPosted on 2008-12-09 at 15:15:21ID: 23134855

This is what I got for that.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\comctl32.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.

This file cannot be Registered.

by: robbhillPosted on 2008-12-09 at 15:19:07ID: 23134872

This behavior may occur if you try to register a DLL by using Regsrv32 while you are logged on using an account that does not have administrative credentials, such as an account that is a member of the standard users group. An account that does not have administrative credentials cannot write to the registry or change files in the System32 folder.

by: robbhillPosted on 2008-12-09 at 15:20:05ID: 23134882

In other words..make sure you are the admin on the box ...and if that doesnt work...lets take the other suggest route of reinstalling all the drivers....which if you have a cd...or if we can find it online....should be no big deal.

by: robbhillPosted on 2008-12-09 at 15:21:25ID: 23134891

Here is a download....for dll's and has the one your looking for.

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?comctl32

by: MightySWPosted on 2008-12-09 at 15:21:34ID: 23134894

Yes, you need to find out where it is.  As Robb said, you need to find the .dll and the .ocx file.  They may be in another directory.

RIght click on my computer and click on search.  Then type in comctl32.dll and see where it is located, also type in comc*.ocx in the search (after you search for the .dll) and see if you get any hits.  The * is a wildcard.

oh perfect.

by: CTSLAPosted on 2008-12-09 at 15:24:41ID: 23134904

I downloaded the dll from the website and when I tried to place it in system32 folder it says there is already the same dll just different size file. I will try and boot in safe mode as admin and see if I can do it that way. Or should I replace the file in system32 folder and then try it?

by: MightySWPosted on 2008-12-09 at 15:26:12ID: 23134911

rename the one in the system32 folder by right clicking on it and clicking rename.  Then copy that one and do the regsvr.

by: MightySWPosted on 2008-12-09 at 15:26:56ID: 23134916

rename it to comctl32.old

by: robbhillPosted on 2008-12-09 at 15:27:03ID: 23134918

yes...do what MIghtySW said

by: CTSLAPosted on 2008-12-09 at 15:45:10ID: 23135025

did what was suggested but still get same error message
