flv thumbnail turned on in XP, regedit question

XP doesn't seem to know how to display a thumbnail for an flv file, so it must be taught to do so.  In researching this I found a possible solution that requires a registry edit but no detailed instructions are given.  I've only done a little bit of registry editing before so I need a little help with more detailed instructions of how to implement this proposed fix:
Here is the proposed fix:

I get as far as finding .flv under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and then I am guessing to make a folder-looking-thing under there I go:"edit, create new key" and name it ShellEx, but then I am stuck: do I create new string, binary, dword etc and do I include brackets etc.
Need detail please.

You don't actually have to enter the registry values manually. Copy the code you have into a text editor. Save the file and change it to a .reg extension. (Rename the file to values.reg). The icon should change to the same icon as the registry editor.

Then just clicking that file will add that stuff to the registry?  Is regedit4 correct?  Manually, in the run field this isn't a valid command but maybe it's ok for a .reg file?  I assumed it was a typo since it wasn't a valid command.

Yes, make the reg file and double clicking it will add it to the registry. Again, make a text file, put the text in it, save and in the field where you put the file name, put values.reg

Thanks.  That did add the items to the registry, but unfortunately I still don't see flv thumbnails, which is puzzling because others in the thread where I found it said it worked.  I don't suppose you have any suggestion about how to get the thumbnails?
