Hello,
I would say the last one would be B.  It is a vague question because you don't know how many slots are available (1, 2, 3, or 5?).  If one is available and you put it in the only open slot, how can it be the wrong slot?
I have seen this where a new DIMM is marginal or gets nailed by cold weather and doesn't work correctly.
Thanks,
Kelly W.

For the sake of discussion:

I think that the fact that it is referencing "UPGRADING" from 64 to 128 means that the question is quite old.  While the memory could be faulty (B), I think the second part of the question "How to fix it?" is guiding enough to say that it is correctable so D is likely the correct answer.

I would say the correct answer is c(been there..did that)

replacing ram in an existing slot was easier than instaling a new one as the channel
was often very tight and the edge of the dimm was faily thich on some modules.

First time upgraders were suprised by how much force was required to get them to "snap"
into place. Very often they would look like they were in but were not seated.

The dimm could be faulty but it would not be the first thing to consider.

was there ever a slot that you could mistakinlg put the dimm in. There were specic sized and also were
"keyed" to match the slot.

Anyway, old question for sure, but troubleshooting always asummes the simpliest solution
and works its way to the complex.

now Im even more confused than Ive been before :) so third Question is C or D Tandy give an good answer but Brandon* is a master&&&&&.
What do us think of other questions ??

by: tandyPosted on 2009-01-19 at 16:32:48ID: 23416223

I agree with the other answers, just the dimm question as i actaully had that problerm when I was
upgrading an old super socket 7 which is the kind of computer in vogue when you book was written I am assuming. You would probally never come accross a serial port these days for any device. Usb, firewire,
are now common.

However going from simplest to complex applies in any situation,

Good luck with you exam,

Tandy

Now that I look more carefully, and given the intent of the author, the firts question is probllay
"c" windows as if the video card was fried the system would not post and you would get a series of beeps from the bios....

by: BrandonGalderisiPosted on 2009-01-19 at 17:52:53ID: 23416567

"Brandon* is a master"

Rank defines participation, not skill.  I'm not saying that I'm not skilled, but don't discredit the contributions of others based on rank.

Yes how could I miss that to finish post you need cpu ram and video card, you right.

by: drogiPosted on 2009-01-19 at 18:00:55ID: 23416601

yes now I see that clearly
thanks anyway man ;)
p.s if I would put in question 3 not 64>128 only 512>1Gis that would change something??

by: tandyPosted on 2009-01-20 at 10:14:48ID: 23422643

All answers here are based on interpretation of the questions and the information of the
available to the expert. Those multiple choice questions on tests can be ambiguos and do not  test
degreee of knowledge. Information that a " real world"  problem would have is left out and you can't ask
for more details( like in a real world problem). Experts here are used to being able to do that.

The first question for instance in the real world could be any of the top 3 answers (d i think is a joke
by the author..should be Ms Word :>)

The video card could post, then when trying to switch to svga( vga is basic function during boot)
could fail. This could be a memory problem with the card, or a driver conflict in windows.

Also, if the monitor has a component failing due to overheating or a "wonkie" svga connector,
that could also cause it to fail during the initial boot process.

These multiple test questions I think are aimed at getting the student to pick the most likely
case.

In any case BrandonGalderisi: earned master tiltle by solving mostly real world problems .
For which people like myself appreciate. I have gotten more help over the years than I have given.
It feels good to chip in with an answer once in a while.

Thanks for the points,

good luck ,

Tandy
