Question

Dell Inspiron 9300 No Audio

Asked by: ConfusedAdam

Hi,
Hopefully someone has a solution to this frustrating problem.
I have an Inspiron 9300 with a Sigmatel 9750 audio card. Over the last week my computer has lost all audio other than the annoying beep that windows makes to bring my attention to something. Windows update is automatic and I have had SP3 installed automatically. I'm not sure if this was the cause of the problem as I'm not sure when it downloaded and installed.
I now have no audio as mentioned. I have downloaded drivers from Dell for my Audio card but they make no difference. I have searched the web for the last three days and got no where. I have another audio card linked vai usb (for music production) this also does not work. I have tried DXDIAG and sound 1 and sound 2 do not work. Sound one says that there is no driver present (presume this is in relation to the Sigmatel card) and sound 2 says that the drivers are not Windows authorised etc. However the music tabe on DXDIAG works and plays music through my internal card and my USB external sound card.
One other thing, my laptop runs duel versions of xp. One for normal work one for music production. When I choose the music production side, which has had no windows updates since installation, the sound cards work fine.
I've tried to find alternative drivers but Sigmatel give drivers to manufacturers of computers so I can only go to dell to get the driver and it doesn't work.
I'm royally cheesed off now and don't want to reinstall windows if I can avoid doing it.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Many thanks,
Adam
