Question

Program not in assoication list. Browsing to choose program doesn't stick.

Asked by: stkoontz

I recently installed Fireworks CS4 and want .jpgs to run Fireworks when opened.  But when I choose 'Open With' to associate jpgs, Fireworks isn't in the list.  I can 'Browse' and choose Fireworks.exe, but the program association won't change.

Any ideas would be great appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve, when you browse andn choose to open it with Fireworks, does it open up with the Fireworks program? If so, go back to Open With again and make sure that the box at the bottom is checked to always use this program to open that type of file.

Hi,
open my computer, click on tools, folder options, file types, scroll down to JPE, JPEG, and JPG extensions and then (do this for each extension), click change and then select Fireworks under browse or under the Programs list (if present).  Click Ok.  Now click on advance and ensure that the actions are set to open.

Hello,

There is another way to do it as well:

If you open Control Panel->Folder Options and look for JPGS, if its not there then add it and apply. It should be permanently fixed, unless you change it again.

Hmm... looks like both of us have done it at the same time, MightySW. No Worries.

Thanks for the quick responses.  I tried the Folder Options method and got the same result.  The Opens With: default is "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer".  When I click 'Change' Fireworks isn't in the list.  So I check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" then Browse and choose Fireworks.exe. Click 'open', Click OK, and I still see "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" in the "Opens With" place.

I just tried going through the same steps and choose "Dreamweaver CS4" and the "Opens With" changed, so it's something to do with Fireworks.  Maybe I just need to re-install Fireworks.  I'll try that and let you know.

Thanks,

Steve

Reading your response closer would have saved me reinstalling Fireworks.  The first time around, I missed "Now click on advance..."  I did that and the association worked fine.

Thanks for the help.  I really appreciate it.
