I have a doozie..any Icon that I click on it opens microsoft works

I have a doozie..lol

Windows xp if I try to dbl click any icon to open it the only thing that opens is microsoft project.
click on control panel microsoft project opens.  I even tried to install antivirus sw and it says that the project cannot open then loads microsoft project. when the computer is rebooted when windows loads and shows the desktop there are alot of errors saying that the project cannot be opened and then microsoft project opens.

 any ideas?

Are you able to uninstall Microsoft Office?  Boot into safemode and uninstall Office/Project then run AV software.

if the problem is recent, a system restore to  a prior date should help you out quickly
