Question

Quickbooks 2008 will not load

Asked by: rapier311

I have an XP SP3 machine I'm trying to load Quickbooks 2008 on. It has been recently reloaded due to a system crash. I start to load Quickbooks 2008, one of the prerequisites is .NET Framework 2.0. When it starts to load from the disk, it errors out, citing something is wrong with the library. I tried pulling down the framework from Microsoft and install it, it errored out also. I tried installing framework 3.5, but it gave a fusion error and would not install.  QB help on their website was not much help, anyone else encounter this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You've tried reloading quickbooks?

Try loading .net framework 1.0 first and then upgrading.  What is the exact error message that you receive when installing either Quickbooks and or .NET framework?

Quickbooks won't install without the .Net Framework 2.0, which it has on the disk, running it from the disk errors out, copying it from the disk to the hard drive and running it errors out, so did the download from Microsoft's website errors out

check windows updates and see if you can update .Net 2.0 from there.
It may have been hidden by you.  You may be unaware that you hid the download.

if it's asking for 1.1, give it 1.1.   The two frameworks work side-by-side with no problems.  Download 1.1 from here:

Might even try 3.0 too.. I honestly hate framework and how many versions you have to install, but it's a crazy world :)

Sounds more like a windows issue than a QuickBooks issue. Run sfc /scannow from the run line. (Start>Run, then type this in. include the space before /.) It will look at the system, and probably ask for your windows disk, so have it handy.  After that, hopefully you can get 1.1 installed, then go for 2.0. 3.0 won't work, QuickBooks wants what it wants for install.

I had the same problem with QB 2009. My old harddrive died and I installed new one. I installed all updates (I thought) before I installed QB. It would not run. I spent with QB support 6.5 hours on the phone trying to re-install it without resolution. I run disk search and scan and fix and everything as suggested by others - nothing helped. Then I reinstalled Windows XP and then QB 2009 and it worked. However, after I installed SP3 again the  QB 2009 showed me the same erroer. Then I decided to run all possible Windows updates. I forced computer for new updates and restarted it 7 times and then I went to www.intuit.com and typed in the search window "1904". First comment walks you through QB fixing via "reboot.bat" and this fixed the problem: Try it: Error 1904: [2] Failed to Register Article ID: 1009408 Overview The following error occurs when installing QuickBooks: Error 1904: [2] failed to register Cause This issue can be caused by an incorrect file setting or a damaged file. Details To resolve this issue, please follow these steps: Click Ignore on the error message about files failing to register (it may be necessary to click on ignore more than once). Important: Allow the installation to complete and do not start QuickBooks. Right-click the Microsoft Windows Start button, and then click Search. Type reboot.bat in the All or part of the file name field. Select your local drive which is typically listed as Local Hard Drives (C:) from the Look in drop-down list. Click Search. When the search begins to list files in the right panel, look for the reboot.bat file under Name in the QuickBooks folder appropriate to your product : C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks (Enterprise 2007 C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks (Enterprise) 2008 Note: This information is displayed in the column labeled In Folder. If you do not see an In Folder column, right-click the gray area where the column names are listed and select In Folder to display that column. Once the correct reboot.bat file appears, click Stop to end the search. Double-click the reboot.bat file that corresponds to your QuickBooks product version. A black window will open as the file runs. When it is finished, it will close automatically. If you are able to install QuickBooks but are unable to locate the reboot.bat file or you are experiencing problems trying to open or use QuickBooks run a repair of the QuickBooks program. Attempt the QuickBooks installation again. If this solution does not resolve the issue, review other Intuit support options for additional guidance.
