Did you check in the raid bios for a setting?

Browse All TopicsSince getting a new Dell 5400 workstation a few weeks ago with a PERC 6/i hardware RAID controller, Windows keeps giving the following error: Controller ID:0 Battery/charger problems detected; SOH bad. I have spoken with an experienced technical lead at Dell who has confirmed that this RAID card has no batter on it, by design. Not sure what is causing this, and wish in the meantime that I could just turn off the error message. it appears in Windows. Thanks for your help!

I have spoken with a pretty high-level technical account manager at Dell, who is confident that Dell has two different PERC 6/i cards: One with a battery for the servers, and one without for workstations.
I did check in the RAID BIOS for a setting, with Dell's help, but there is not one that we can discern that speaks to this issue.
Yay Dell. : /
Some ideas off the top of my head:
- see if they put in the correct driver (the non-battery one)
- see if there is a setting in the driver properties that you can uncheck.
- see if there is a jumper on the card that disables the battery option
- have Dell send another card, or somebody to fix it.
Really appreciate the input.
Spoke with the technical account manager (TAM) at Dell today, after discovering something: the Dell SAS Raid Manager installs something in Services called MRMonitor (for Mega RAID Monitor). This was what was reporting the battery errors. I went into Services and disabled this. No more notifications. According to the TAM at Dell, this makes it likely that the Windows software from Dell/Intel is having issues. He promised to investigate.
Heard from Dell today, and this is kind of the last word on the situation: It seems that they have a particularly modified software build for this RAID card that slightly differs, depending on whether it is installed in a server (with a battery), or in a workstation (without a battery). Apparently in the SKU, they called for the software build for servers. Essentially all this did was to enable stuff like the MRMonitor service which would otherwise be shut off. Not sure how to go about turning it off in the RAID software GUI, but that's another issue. In any case, simply turning off the MRMonitor service in Windows Services has discontinued my issue.
Thanks to all for you help!

The controller does have a battery.
