Try just reinstalling the NIC driver first. I had a machine I could log into but the network stack was broken - no networking. I reinstalled driver and it fixed it.

I'm trying to avoid reinstalling XP. The event log is telling me:
"Initialization failed because the device driver could not be created". That's NetBT
Shortly after that i get
"IP could not open the registry key for adapter TCPIP\Parameters\Adapters\
I'm hoping to simply repair these components without an OS reinstall. Is this possible?

You can probably figure out how to fix this stuff but if your disk got hosed maybe these are not the only problems?
You can do an "in-place upgrade" which is basically a reinstall with no loss. However make sure that:
1) You have a CD with the latest service pack integrated;
2) You have all drivers for the machine on a flash drive or whatever.
Can also do a repair install but I think this way is better. BTW back up the disk first. (Ghost or Acronis True Image recommended.)
