Browse All TopicsI have not installed any software or hardware. Only automatic Windows updates and Office updates have been installed. All of the Control Panel|Power Options|Power Schemes are gone or grayed out. System insists on putting the monitor into "power save", though I don't want it to. As a clue, during the period when things changed, many desktop icons changed their design, as if a new set of icons came with one of the automatic updates.

You are right, I was just interested in that single file. SFC often causes too many problems in just trying to get it to work, if your system has had a Service Pack installed, installed form a CDRom/HDD etc....
Thats why I was offering the single fix, and not all of them. Definately not trying to take away from the validity of your comment....
