Question

Windows XP SubinAcl.exe installation

Asked by: chima

Hello,
I have been trying to install Flash Player.  Flash Player installs and I can view videos yet I am not getting any sound.  The sound problem may be caused by some other source and not the Flash Player.
What is strange to me is that the Adobe folder is empty.  I can remove the Flash Player from the "Programs Installed," i.e., Settiings/Control Panel/Add and Remove Programs.  I do not see it any where else.
I thought the problem was in the registry (after reading about it) and I read to install SubinAcl.exe.
I have reinstalled Flash Player and I get the same results.
What else could I try?

(c:\documents and settings\"

If I remember correctly, subinacl.exe is only when you run into issues where you are unable to uninstall Adobe Flash or Reader.

Are you running IE or Firefox?? Are you sure you are running Flash or Shockwave?
You should also be able to check within the browser and ensure it sees Flash as install. Also run the adobe flash test page to make sure its detected and running properly.

flubbster: and Thinkpaper
I apologize for the delay.  I registered the HKey items and I have not gotten any sounds yet.  My Creative Boston Live speakers had a broken AC Adapter, so I decided to order one before I continued trying to solve this sound problem.  I now have the Boston speakers connected, but no sound yet.

Any further suggestion?

flubbster:
Is there a way to undo the merging of the setting you suggested.  I am thinking that one of these settings has my sound blaster tied up.
How can I undo the merge as suggested in your prior posting?

Do you have any sound at all?

In Volume control, make sure all inputs for playback are up and unmuted (Wave, Dynth, etc).

Make sure you can see all inputs (Control Panel - Sounds and Audio devices - Volume - Advanced - Options - properties -  Playback - Show the following volume controls

To undo, a system restore to a point prior is the easiest. If the list existed with different values and you didn't export them first, it is the only way. If you want to remove the subkeys completely, see the second part of this  this from Microsoft -
Deleting Registry Keys and Values
To delete a registry key with a .reg file, put a hyphen (-) in front of the RegistryPath in the .reg file. For example, to delete the Test subkey from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software
put a hyphen in front of the following registry key in the .reg file:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Test
The following example has a .reg file that can perform this task.
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Test]
To delete a registry value with a .reg file, put a hyphen (-) after the equals sign following the DataItemName in the .reg file. For example, to delete the TestValue registry value from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Test
put a hyphen after the "TestValue"= in the .reg file. The following example has a .reg file that can perform this task.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Test
"TestValue"=-
To create the .reg file, use Regedit.exe to export the registry key that you want to delete, and then use Notepad to edit the .reg file and insert the hyphen.

Hi
I have not gotten any sounds yet<< is the a global problem on the whole system?
Check first  device manager and audio card is installed with no problems.
Open VIEW at the top and tick to show hidden devices.
I'd say until you can confirm if it is hardware ( speakers) or software )
we'll need to wait for your feedback.

Vee_Mod: deroode: burrcm: and Merete:
I apologize for the absence.  I had some home repairs to take care of.  I am back now, I hope I still have your expertise to help me.  It is late tonight, but tomorrow I will try your suggestion, if any.  I will answer everyones questions tonight, marked with >>> below;

Vee_Mod:
>>> Thanks for the help.  Sorry for the delay.

deroode:
Do you have any sound at all?
>>>> No, no sound at all.

In Volume
burrcm:
>>> I will follow this tomorrow.
To undo, &..HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Test
"TestValue"=- &hyphen.

Merete:
>>> I had posted another question, which you probably do not have visibility to/of.  I will try to add the Windows XP zone to it.  Basically I have tried everything under the sun; the sound card works, the speakers work, the device manager is saying that the device works but that it is not started.  I checked the Services and the Windows Audio is Started automatically.  I then searched the internet, only to find other suggestions.  I tried those changes and nothing.  On Friday I was about to reload the OS, but then got side tracked with home repairs.

by: chimaPosted on 2009-08-10 at 19:26:02ID: 25065746

I could not see how, if possible, to add a zone.  The questions title is;
Sound Card setup - Windows XP Control Panel Sound and Audio Devices

I guess I should have included Windows XP when I first asked the question.

by: chimaPosted on 2009-08-11 at 11:35:01ID: 25071928

This question is especially for flubbster:, yet anyone could answer.  Now that burrcm: has shown how to delete the registry setting, which of the drivers you listed on your Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32] settings are safe to remove?

If I remove all of these drivers, what will be the end result, consequence?
I tried researching each of these drivers, as to whether it is safe to remove them, but did not find any definite information.  Then I tried searching for which driver the Driver32 registry needs, but did not find any site.  So I ask you, which ones should I remove?

by: burrcmPosted on 2009-08-11 at 13:33:06ID: 25073087

Setting a restore point prior to any removal, and or exporting the keys before deletion will permit their restoration in the event of negative outcomes. I was not necessarily recommending deletion, just showing how it might be done. It is likely that some or all of the entries existed prior to your changes, but perhaps with different values. I would still prefer to restore the sytem to the point prior to the changes if possible.

by: chimaPosted on 2009-08-11 at 18:27:23ID: 25075047

burrcm/Chris B, I will follow your suggestions as much as possible.  I had tried a system restore back to May, but for some reason the process was unable to do a restore.

So this isn't a flash sound problem, but a global sound problem...

- Do you now have a verified good working set of speakers?
- Are they connected to the right jack on the sound card?
- In device manager, is the correct driver for the sound card installed, and other drivers for soundcards that are not in your system removed?
(I have seen cases where windows automatically detects a soundcard and installs a soundblaster driver (that is before you install the correct drivers), which then ties up the soundcard, but doesn't produce sound)

And of course, next time anyone sends you a .reg file to overwrite dozens of settings, backup your registry (export) first. But you know that now...

So you have no audio at all?
Couple of ideas to check/
(1) Is this a desktop? or a laptop?
XP or Vista some other?
(2)
Are the speakers connected to the correct Audio out ( usually green socket)
(3)
Can you confirm that any audio/ video is playing using an MP3 in Winamp or a media player with an equalizer that shows a graph.

(4)
go to start run type in dxdiag press enter then run the audio diag
(5)

see if the Microsoft GS wavetable SW synth is listed in the Midi music playback

Thankyou, I'll wait for your feedback.
reading through your words,  I would consider uninstalling xpsp3.
Restore the system to working and then check the guide for installing xpsp3.
Steps to take before you install Windows XP Service Pack 3
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717
I would also consider installing drivers that match your mainboard
or
removing the sound card if it's a PCI slotted onto the mainboard and enable the onboard.
Do you have an onboard sound card?
Uninstall all audio drivers in system device from safemode after you have removed the card
Use the mainboard CD to re-install drivers for the mainboard.
In the mean time to answer your questions>
Is the audio diag downloaded from the web site << no it's an integral part of windows.

Thank you for your help.  I will follow the suggestions.  If I do not solve the problem then I will reload the OS.  I can function without the sound, so I do not know when I will get around to this.  I did learn two valuable points; before making any changes, make sure one can restore the system back.  And alway questions any changes suggested and not just make the changes.
