My system: Dell Inspiron 530, XP Pro, 2G Ram. Recently I've started getting this MOM.EXE error message about 6 to 7 times a day. The instruction number is always the same, but referenced memory number varies. This error has something to do with my video card which is an ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO but I don't know what.
the mom.exe file is located in 2 places on my computer:
C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Brand
and
C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-

Perhaps get the latest Catalyst Control Center --CCC.

You say this started recently. Can you think of any new hard/soft ware you installed about that time.
Perhaps try a System Restore.
jamietoner, I Uninstaledl the catalyst control center and driver and reinstalled the latest driver and catalyst control center from ATI. Niow when I reboot i get 2 error messages. [.jpg attached]

We've seen an unusual error popping up on occassion in relation to ATI's Catalyst driver suite, version 7.2. It happens universally in both XP and Vista environments.
The error points to a problem with MOM.exe--an executable that has the same unfortunate name as a virulent piece of malware. (If you get a MOM.exe error and you don't have the ATI catalyst installed, then you've likely got the malware.)
ATI is aware of the problem and the engineers are looking at implementing a resolution. For the time being, ATI advises customers who receive this error message uninstall Catalyst version 7.2 and put version 7.1 on the system instead.
FlooringPro, I think that must be an old article. AMD has a 'Previous Drivers page' with 18 versions from v8.451 through v.8.62, but nothing as far back as v7.2. I've uninstalled and reinstalled from Safe mode, run the AV scan (no problems), and now I have the latest Catalyst/driver version on it v.8.632, but I still get the same error message when booting, and cannot launch the Catalyst Control Center. I get the "Could not load file or assembly MOM..." error shown above.

so - uninstall catalyst control center and drivers.
make use of "autoruns.exe" from sysinternals to remove their trails

INSTALL DRIVER FROM Windows Update - it does not need .NET (v8.533.1.0)
you can install ati southbridge and amd processor if it is relevant for your motherboard.
(VGA mode at this moment)
So far you got without .NET, no need to go further.
Uninstall all the .net (assuming no other apps use it):

Install .NET 1.1 only if you need it AND .NET 3.5 SP1 (which has latest patched 2.0 included)
Follow with all applicable Windows updates.

Keep in maind that Catalyst versions and file versions are not same. Catalyst v7 contained file v8.x but vile 7.x was for Radeon 7000 series.
Remove the driver and software in safe mode again and reboot into normal mode and try the Dell driver for that card.

Unfortunetly, im not a wiz with ATI cards. I wish i could take you further but i'm at a loss as well. From a troubleshooting standpoint, personally, i would begin to look at swapping the vid card with another ATI and see if i could get drivers/CCC to load. It may be something hardware related.
Inspiron 530 has Intel mainboard, for that you need some ATI hotfixes for drivers.
Yes - MOM.EXE crashes with memory configurations of cards that was unavailable at cards making - like 200M with 1GB shared mem (not in BIOS, but in MobilityModder)
That is why i am suggesting complete cleanup.
If there is really ATI card in your system it is HD radeon and driver 9.7 from game.amd.com is best to date.
If you never paid attention to 3d tweak then windows update offers stable and seamless driver updates.
