is there a way to find your Pc name in a file

I recently had to restore my PC. My Pc name was something that was generated.  This time i named it nyself. some programs are registered to that PC name. I did a backup so i have all my old files.  Is there a file that would have my old PC name in it?

Did you keep a copy of your old registry files?  The computer name is stored in the registry in one of the places below.

If you didn't keep (or export) your registry at some point - then you are out of luck and will need to find another way to get your programs running.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Control\Computername\Computername
or
HKLM\System\ControlSet001\Control\Computername\

If you backed up your C: drive, search for the following file at a similar location:

C:\Windows\Debug\NetSetup.log

It will specify the old pc name. Let me know if it works for you.
