Question

Not enough server storage is available to process this command - Peer to Peer

Asked by: zogsterjack

We are running a Terastation as a central storage device for a network of 15 to 20 pc and macs, (macs don't use the Terastation but are on the same network for internet access)

All has been running fine until one PC, with 'apparently' no changes in the last few months, started having problems seeing network shares.

The whole list of 'my network places' cleared out and now if you go into MNP and click to view all workgroup computers you get - {workgroup name} is not accessible. You might not have permission etc. follwed by - Not enough server storage is available to process this command

I have done the google and EE searches and all similar situations appear to point to IPSTACK related issues on the server or Norton Antivirus. As we aren't running a 'server' beyond the Buffalo Terastation and avoid Norton for performance purposes I am at a bit of a loss.

Several other XP PCs on the network have shared folders but we are not trying to access any from the PC with problems. Said PC is currently running XP SP2 but is being updated to SP3 as I type.

I can access the Terastation by using the UNC address for the folders but unfortunately the user (along with monst on the same network) is used to using my network places and like most users is resistant to change

Any suggestions, hint, tips or pearls of wisdom that allow this PC to show entries in 'my network places' and connect to show the workgroup again, greatly appreciated.

(I appreciate many people may not like the 15-20 pcs on a peer to peer network, but thats a whole different topic)

Many thanks in advance

I have the same issue from time to time on Windows XP systems. I correct it by modifying the IRPStacksize registry key and rebooting. This article describes the problem and the key you need to modify. I have found the value 24 seems to work the best for me. This Microsoft article mentions AntiVirus software but another piece of software may be causing your problem.

But which machine do you modify the IRPStacksize on? all the articles I have read suggest on the machine sharing the folder not the client machine that I get the message on.

Problem with this is, the sharing machine is a Buffalo Terastation not a windows machine and therefore I am not aware of there being a IRPStacksize or if there is, how to access it.

Thanks for the suggestion though

I have always modified it on the machine getting the error and the one I was connecting to. I know in this case the value would not exist on the terastation but it may be worth changing it on your client system.

I followed the Microsoft instructions and created the DWORD value for IRPStackSize as it didn't exist on the client PC.

So far have just tried this set at 18 with no change, but will try other values later as user needed their machine back for rest of the day (another late evening for the IT staff)

Starting to think I might need to change this on any PCs sharing folders on the network as I guess it could be any of the machines with shared folders actually causing the fault to occur

Many thanks

I have seen values go up as high 27 before the error was gone, as an FYI....
