Question

$hf_mig$ Folder

In the C:\windows\folder is a folder called $hf_mig$. The folder in my case contains 746 MB of files, mostly in KBxxxxxx folders. Can the $hf_mig$ be deleted or can its contents? I delete all the $Update Folders, but I'm questioning this folder. It robbing me 3/4 a Gig. Not much, but why not get rid of it if you can? Thanks in advance.

according to this MS article you should not delete that folder. If you do, future MS updates may not install properly.

"In this scenario the hotfix installation in step 2 installs the hotfix version of File.dll (version number 5.2.3790.1000) from the %windir%\$hf_mig$ folder instead of the hotfix version of File.dll (version number 5.2.3790.0000) from the hotfix package."

Delete it. You will be fine. The hotfixes always contain the files they need, it only uses the hf_mig version if it is already there. We have a regular script that deletes temp files from servers including hf_mig and the service pack rollbacks.
