That usually means one of 2 things. Either the drivers for the Disk Controller are missing (if this started happening suddenly, this is usually because a setting was changed in the BIOS, like IDE mode was changed to AHCI or some other SATA mode, so changing back to IDE or Compatibility mode, or whatever it's called in your BIOS, will usually get the system back working). Or the file-system or Drive is corrupt.
If the drive or file-system is corrupt, you should start with testing the drive using the drive manufacturer's diagnostic utility. If it tells you the drive is bad and should be replaced, that's what should be done, or if it asks whether it should try to repair the found errors, that should be done. You can find the manufacturer's diagnostic tools on the UBCD:

After that the file-system should be repaired (or if you are going to do a restore, delete the system partition, create a new one and format it to ntfs). NTFS file-systems should be repaired by doing chkdsk /x, or if you can't boot to your OS, start from a Windows XP installation CD and go into the recovery console, and use chkdsk /r.

Boot your PC using a LiveCD like Puppy, Knoppix or the UBCD4WIN. Look for the last 3 *.dmp files and upload them using the ee-stuff link below:
