Browse All TopicsGreetings, I have a brand new Dell vostro 220 with windows XP and SP3.
In this PC I have two PCI card who control a Chemical device which controls the water.
I followed the guide provided with the cards, it told me to install the driver.. wich is done and to convert my
computer to Standard PC mode instead of ACPI mode (in device manage).
I converted my computer to that mode and I rebooted. When my PC restarted, it hang on the windows XP screen, give a stop 0x000000F4 and can't boot anymore. I needed to use the recovery disk to reinstall windows XP.
I need to know how can I switch my PC to standard PC without crashing it.
thank you
Frank

I believe in your BIOS configuration (available before you start windows) you will have an optional setting where your drives are either ACPI <OR> ATA mode.
I would imagine if you change your windows configuration you should change your BIOS configuration to match, or you would have problems. This is because Windows will use a special driver if you have ACPI. If you disable the ACPI you would disable the driver, but you would need to disable that hardware mode so you no longer need that driver.
Does this make sense?

There are probably settings for that in the BIOS...
