Here's a step by step already written. Just change the option (#15) in ghostcast to unicast and it'll do one computer rather than multiple.

Don't you use sysprep for changing the SID only?  I didn't think sysprep could be used for imaging computers and then deploying that image?

Victor2008 -
You are correct. Sysprep is not an imaging solution. It is used in conjunction with Ghost as part of the imaging solution.

Are you trying to use Ghost Image to make a bootable cd to copy one drive to another or do you already have an operating system on the target drive?

Hi, I just want to know how to take an image of one computer and then copy that image to a external hard drive.  Then, I need to know how to restore that image to another computer.  I only want to do this for one or two computers not many at one time.  Thanks for you help!

by: pln1146Posted on 2009-08-30 at 19:31:06ID: 25220282

Ghost instructs that if you want to copy on original drive to a new drive, the  new drive must be installed in your computer as a slave, and partitioned exactly as the original drive is partitioned.  To do this you use the Copy Drive feature of ghost.  I do not know if it will work with an external drive but if your computer sees it as a viable drive, then you could try the drive copy utility.  You still have to partition the new drive exactly as the source drive is partitioned.  As an alternative, Acronis True Image Home is an excellent program to clone the contents of one drive to another.  It does it flawlessly and takes care of the details.  I have used it a number of times and I have never had a problem.

OK to make this scenario simple and i assume you only wanted to use this to accomplish these task mentioned

go to http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/

download  True Image home, it free for 15 days i believe , while you can complete your task in less than 3-4 hours

acronis will allow you to make images to an external hdd, then restore to any other computer, after which make neccessary modification like computer name and all

also if you want to purchase it's just 50$. i have used this for a long time, reliable, robust

let me know if you have any further questions

by: emilgasPosted on 2009-08-31 at 09:14:49ID: 25224029

Hold on, the simple task seems to me just got a lot more complicated.

  • Just turn off your computer.
  • Connect your External USB Drive to the machine. (make sure to have enough space)
  • Boot The computer with either USB Flash Drive or CD or even a floppy
  • Once you are in Ghost just choose LOCAL -> DISK -> TO IMAGE
  • The destination ghost file should be your External USB

That's it. now if you want to use this ghost file you just created on your USB dirve to image another computer, just boot up ghost and do LOCAL -> DISK -> FROM IMAGE and oben the ghost file from your usb drive.

There are several things that I assumed, this image can go to only an identical computer. You CANNOT PUT IT ONTO ANOTHER KIND OF PC. Next, the computer name would be the same as the original computer you cloned SINCE WE DID NOT USE SYSPREP.

if you want to lear how to use sysprep let me know and i'll break it down for you in few simple steps.
