I have tried all the suggested routes of altering the registry so the activation window can be used but this hasnt worked and it still tells me that it is activated.
I have also tried the freeware apps to do the same job but this do nothing.
Has anyone got any ideas?

If the computer is the same brand name as the original one, it is already probably using the same license key.
For example, all DELL's use the same license key, same with HP, Compaq, IBM...etc....You should not worry about it unless you are planning to join it to a domain (totally different problem) because they would have the same SID's.
If the above is the case, there is a utility from Systernals that will allow you to change the SID's.
