I have got a printer that i am attemping to share acrossed a network with xp pro clients and window SBS 2003. I have installed that latest drivers and firmware for this printer. I also have window firewall off and have simple file sharing enabled. I install the printer thought the local computer's add a printer wizard. Enabled the sharing on the printer and checked the box to list it in the directory. Now when i browse to the printer diectory though the server or other client 'add a printer wizard'. I can see the printer in the directory. but when I click on it to connect i recieve the following error. "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Either the printer name was typed incorrectly, or the printer has lost its connection to the server". What am I doing wrong or what can I do to correct this?
**Note I do have other printers on the the network that share just fine.

reading on the web I found this person with a similar problem as you and this is what he did to fix it.
control panel

add printer
add a local printer
under "Use an existing port:" I found my printer listed 3 ways (could be this cluster stuff)
I chose the one that had "(PrintServer Port)" in its name.
Now the printer works fine.
I have enable bi-directional support and now I get the following error
THe printer driver cannot connect to the network print server
You may either try to connect again, or disable network features. If you diaable network features, you can turn them on again later in the Network Setting dialog.
If i disable then I can see my printer properties from other clients
Hi there,
From one of the computers you want to connect to the printer:
Click start, run, then type: \\servername\
That should open up a window and show you the printer that is shared on the machine hosting the printer.
Right click the printer, and click connect.
It will add to your printers.
Just set it to be default if you like.
Hope this works

Go to the PC which has the printer attached. From the Control Panel, under Printers & Faxes, right click on the Printer you want to share and select Properties.
In the Sharing tab, ensure you check the box to enable the printer to be shared. The Shared Name of the Printer should no no more than 12 characters or numbers... with NO SPACES in it.
Click on OK
now try to add it on another PC
