The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

HELP...Trying to ghost IBM Thinkpad R51 laptop

Hi, I am trying to ghost some IBM Thinkpad R51 laptops, but the IBM Rescue & Recovery hidden partition is making life difficult.  After I have ghosted the laptops, they boot up with an error message that repeats.  Something about a signature error or something along those lines.  I have run into this before and couldn't recall how I fixed it...I vaguely recall using the fixmbr command, but when I do that it boots back up into the IBM Rescue & Recovery partition.  Giving options to recovery to factory status.

I did notice when booting to an XP Pro SP3 CD after this happens, it displays the two partition, 1- D:\Windows  2- C:\MinINT .  Now I found that a bit weird.

What makes this even stranger, is when I go through the configuring of the ghost for the client side, it shows the same thing on the partitions page of the ghost setup.

The master ghost image laptop is the EXACT same model that I am trying to ghost to.

We have a Ghost Server that we are using and it has worked fine with several ghosting sessions this year.

I am convinced it has something to do with the IBM Rescue & Recovery partition.

I tried deleted that partition and now the laptop boots up saying no OS found.

So, am I on the right track with the fixmbr or have I totally lost my mind?

Anyone else run into this scenario?  If so, how did you fix it?

I hope I haven't left anything out.

Thanks for your time.

Bob
