Hi,
We are having problems installing Windows XP Japanese version on the Dell Vostro 1520 laptops. When you first boot from the disk it comes back with the BSOD and the following error code:
Stop: 0x0000007B (0xF78D663C, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).
I googled the error and went into the BIOS and changed the SATA mode selection from AHCI to ATA. This seemed to work...at first. I was able to format the drive NTFS and load Windows. However, now every time the laptop boots it doesn't see the OS. It says "No Operating System Found" and tries booting from CD-Rom or from the network. If I choose F12 and manually choose the Hard Drive then it boots no problem. But if you shut it down again and boot the same viscious cycle happens all over again. I did go into the BIOS to make sure the HD was enabled. It was. I reseated the HDD and made sure it was recognized by the BIOS. It was. I also called Dell but they had no idea. After the OS installed I went back into the BIOS and changed the SATA mode from ATA back to AHCI but that did not work either. The English version of XP Pro works fine. I have put our build on it, created an image, and deployed without incident. It's just the Japanese OS. Any ideas? Thanks!

Here is the contents of the boot.ini file:

It appears to match up with what's on the english machines. Anyway, hope it helps. Thanks!
Looks fine. I would boot to the recovery console and run a checkdisk:
chkdsk /r
I wouyld then run a fix mbr (master boot record)
fixmbr
I don't think you need to execute a fixboot, because the boot.ini file appears ok. Of course, it will not hurt if you want to do it just in case:
fixboot
So.... in the order listed, do all of the following in the recovery console:
chkdsk /r (will take a while)
fixmbr (will verify and repair the master boot record)
fixboot (will fix the boot.ini file if needed)

Thanks for the advice but I solved the problem. The problem was the Japanese OS was SP1 which does not have the AHCI SATA control drivers embedded into the installation package. I got the drivers from the manufacturer's website, used the Nlite program to integrate the drivers into the installation package, burned a bootable image, and loaded. It worked!

Once it is booted into the os, go to start>run and type in msconfig
Seelct the boot.ini tab and copy and paste the boot.ini file here pls.
