Please tell me how to use a card reader?

I was told to buy a card reader by a formal help site, but it did't tell me how to use it. Could you help me and explain how to use it,please.

Most card readers are used much like a scanner, you install the drivers and software and then you scan the cards. They usually have an internal  DB that stores the information and then you can export it out in a number of formats, some f them even talk to outlook/act etc as you scan them in.

Would have to have more information, make model etc.

To add to vegasIT's comment:

Many card readers, assuming USB, also dont require drivers at all. They just get recognized as keyboard-type input devices. If you open notepad and swipe a card, the data read off the magnetic stripe gets inserted into notepad as if you typed it yourself.

Most card readers don't even need drivers.

Do you mean memory card readers or card readers? With memory cards, it should just come up with the files, and with scanners, the data should just get typed down.

they are mostly like Flash memory (USB)
plug n play,
when inserted a new icon will appear on My Computer

I am sorry, I really don't understand this point system.  When one gets 10 responses one gets mixed up.Tell me what should I have done. I don't want to get shot down on my second day on Experts Exchange, or canceled.............

Well, its better if you increase the no of points assoicated for this question and divide them between experts
