Question

"Cannot find ///Fast hardlock driver"

I have just upgraded a PC from 2k Pro to XP Pro (SP3) but every time I try to open a DOS based programm I get "Cannot find ///Fast hardlock driver" . I clock ok - the only option. I then get a 16 Bit Windows Subsystem box that says "HLVDD.DLL. An Installable Virtual Device Driver failed DLL initialization" Choose Close to terminate application". There is a box behind this "NTVDM.EXE has encountered a problem and needs to close. I cannot find any program that is causing this. i.e. Aladdin does not seem to be on this machine and no dongle is attached.
HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!

You not find anything that says aladdin. hardloack is the name of the protection protocol that is created by aladdin to secure a program. Some program on your system is secured. Look in add/remove programs for anything Hardlock or aladdin and remove it. Otherwise, you can try downloading and installing the above. The hlvdd.dll file is free and clean. Unzip it into c:\windows\system32

Thanks Flubster but no joy.
No traces of Hardlock or Aladdin in Add Remove Programs or in any files.
Downloaded hlvdd.dll and renamed old version installed new. no difference.
Deleted every trace of hardlock from registry - still the same problem.

start>run and typer in:

services.msc

scroll down and look for a hardlock service. If found, double-click and set startup type to disabled. Reboot. Test.

Unfortunately that Service does not exist.

Make sure the dll is registered:

start>run

regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\hlvdd.dll

Also... follow this:

Locate and select the following value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Multi-string Value.
Type VDD in the Value Name box, and then press ENTER.
Quit Registry Editor.

I have found a fix? or possibly a work arround.

I found this: http://www.equitron.com/PCX1000/faq.htm#q5
then download and install HDD32.EXE driver from http://www.equitron.com/PCX1000/download/hdd32.exe
To my surprise I am no longer getting any error.
