Dell - can you see the service tag from windows? (back light is gone) but can use ext monitor

Customer has a bad back light on a laptop.

Can boor to windows on extternal LCD, but external screen only happens when windows appears.

So how to determine he service tag?  the service tag stickerr is missing from the base of the laptop.

If you type in this command into the command prompt it will display the serial/service tag number:

wmic bios get serialnumber

Hi there,

Browse to this website in IE:

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/en/details?c=us&cs=rc956904&l=en&s=hied

Then click on the "Find my service tag" link
It will run Dell's System Profiler and get your service tag.

Just out of curiousity, how did I not get points for this?  My response was identical to Farhankazi's, the only difference is on mine you didnt have to click on a link to figure out what to do.  Not a big deal but was just wondering.
