The Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service must be corrupted. When I attempt to let windows handle the network adapter configuration my connection does not work and when I attempt to view the "Advanced" settings of my connection, an error appears that says Windows cannot display the properties of this connection. Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) might be corrupted.
I already tried System Restore twice and it didn't work.... so it is not an option and the online research that I have done is a bit confusing. I guess I need some help with the issue.
How can I fix this easy?

PS. I am using Windows XP Pro (SP3)

I got these directions for Repairing and re-registering the WMI Services from here:
http://www.nucleustechnolo
This is what they are:
Click Start, Run and Type this command and press Enter: net stop winmgmt
Using Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Windows\system32\wbem directory
and delete the Repository directory
Click Start, Run and Type this command and press Enter: net start winmgmt
Click Start, Run and type CMD then Enter. At the command prompt, enter these lines one at a time
cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem
for %i in (*.dll) do RegSvr32 -s %i
for %i in (*.exe) do %i /RegServer
Then type exit.
To repair WMI you need to run the following from a command prompt:
net stop winmgmt
net start winmgmt
The above will fix a corrupted WMI repository.
If you are using XP Sp2 use the following command:
rundll32 wbemupgd, UpgradeRepository
If it is still not working then you need to re-register the WMI. Run the following commands at the command prompt:
cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem
for %i in (*.dll) do RegSvr32 -s %i
for %i in (*.exe) do %i /RegServer
There is a faster and better way but you must have the XP OS Intall CD for your current Service Pack..... It's easy to make (in case you need it) Just search here: how to slipstream XP with SP3.....
Once you have your OS CD with the latest service pack run this from the command prompt:
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSectio
The
I hope it helps!!!
I followed the instructions at <http://www.nucleustechnolo
Did you follow the repair instructions I posted above? If not try these (they are less confusing and better explained):

I followed the instructions at < http://www.ehow.com/how_48
Unfortunatly, when I used the WMI Diagnosis Utility 2.0 to check, it produced an error... "ERROR: WMIDiag detected issues that could prevent WMI to work properly!..." (see attached as proof).
I had to reinstall the Netgear WG111v2 Network Connection Utility Software in order to get connected once again.
--------------------
It seems everything else works fine. I just cannot use windows to configure my connection. So, should I just let it go?
I just had a thought, but I have no clue if it will do any thing concerning my issue with a corrupted WMI or the consequences of doing so.... what if I just reinstall SP3?
=> http://www.experts-exchang
I was just about to go there....there are other ways but this is faster and safer than a repair install..... remove the Netgear first.... then uninstall....before re-installing follow the Clean Install Method:
This is what Microsoft describes as a "Clean Install" process to avoid problems:
1. Go to Start-Run
2. Type msconfig.
3. Go to the "Services" tab and click on "Hide All Microsoft Services"
4. Unselect all the remaining services.
5. Go to the "Startup" and disable all the startup items.
6. Reboot.
7. Ignore the Warning Screen telling you about msconfig....Click on "Don't show this again".
8. Open Internet Explorer-Tools-Windows Updates
9. Select the Express Updates.
10. All of the updates should install cleanly.
11. Reboot.
12. Re-Enable all the Services and the Startup items you want disabled before.
If it doesn't work I'm afraid that a repair install will be the fastest way rather than spending hours troubleshooting
Hope it helps!!!
Well, configuring the Netgear Adapter via Windows is working now.
However, like previously, when I use the WMI Diagnosis Utility to check, it still produces an error... "ERROR: WMIDiag detected issues that could prevent WMI to work properly!..." As proof I attached a screen-shot.
...maybe the WMI Diagnosis Utility is giving a "false-positive".
I think I'll give the issue a rest right now, close the thread and give you the points tomorrow.

Have you tried uninstalling the netgear software and the adapter then reinstall the adapter without the netgear utility software?
