The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Windows XP SP3 very slow to logon (5 minutes or more)

Asked by Nikolaj77 in Windows XP Operating System, Active Directory, Windows 2003 Server

Tags: slow logon, windows xp, domain, slow logoff

Hi,

I have a client which experience very slow logon times on one on of his PC's. There are 15 PC's in total and this PC is the only one that experience slow logon times.

When he logs into his PC it takes around 5 minutes before the desktop is even presented. It hangs the 5 minutes at "Loading your personal settings"

The environment:

* Windows XP SP3
* Part of a Windows 2003 domain
* Using roaming profiles
* The other PC's on the domain does not experience slow logon times.
* No folder synchronization is enabled
* Offline caching is disabled
* No nonpresent UNC pathes are mapped
* The global profile share, has the following offline settings: "Only the files and programs that users specify will be available offline."
* The global profile share is located on a memberserver in the domain
* There are two Windows 2003 R2 DC's
* There is also a Terminal Server present in the environment, where usere logon from remote to work on their desktop.

There is an event (event id 1525) in the eventlog:

"Windows has detected that Offline Caching is enabled on the Roaming Profile share - to avoid potential profile corruption, Offline Caching must be disabled on shares where roaming user profiles are stored."

Can someone please help us locating the issue regarding the slow logon times and resolve it?

Is the problem related to the event 1525?

Thanks.

Regards,
Nikolaj
