Browse All TopicsHi,
I have a client which experience very slow logon times on one on of his PC's. There are 15 PC's in total and this PC is the only one that experience slow logon times.
When he logs into his PC it takes around 5 minutes before the desktop is even presented. It hangs the 5 minutes at "Loading your personal settings"
The environment:
* Windows XP SP3
* Part of a Windows 2003 domain
* Using roaming profiles
* The other PC's on the domain does not experience slow logon times.
* No folder synchronization is enabled
* Offline caching is disabled
* No nonpresent UNC pathes are mapped
* The global profile share, has the following offline settings: "Only the files and programs that users specify will be available offline."
* The global profile share is located on a memberserver in the domain
* There are two Windows 2003 R2 DC's
* There is also a Terminal Server present in the environment, where usere logon from remote to work on their desktop.
There is an event (event id 1525) in the eventlog:
"Windows has detected that Offline Caching is enabled on the Roaming Profile share - to avoid potential profile corruption, Offline Caching must be disabled on shares where roaming user profiles are stored."
Can someone please help us locating the issue regarding the slow logon times and resolve it?
Is the problem related to the event 1525?
Thanks.
Regards,
Nikolaj

Is network connection setup properly?
Answer: Yes, the network is setup properly. It is using DHCP. The only thing that is a little abnormal is that they have three DNS servers in the DHCP settings. Two are the domain controllers, and also one external DNS server on the internet. We have tried to manually define only the two DC's as DNS servers on the PC. No result. Also there is a Cisco VPN client installed, version 5.0.05.0280. I have tried to go into advance settings of the network and moved the connection for the internal LAN to the top in the priority selection.
Also try to get new drivers for network card from manufacturer...
Answer: This is a laptop that is one year old. All the other laptops from the same shipment works ok.

200MB is still large try to locate where is stored this amount of data. And remember that if you delete files, the change must replicate to profile, so first logoff/logon may be slower...

Hi,
I agreed with this client to disable roaming profile for this particular user.
Now it runs fine.
But I also found that I should enable folder redirection to redirect Application data, My documents, Desktop etc... to another folder to prevent it to sync everytime the user logs on/off.
Thanks for your help.

Nikolaj
