word initializing root folders

Tags: windows XP word initializing root folders

Is there a way to turn off office searching through mapped drives when saving a word document. Basically I get the message "word initializing root folders" when I am saving a file. This behavious occurs when all mapped drives are disconnected, We use an application that displays a system folder drive listed as other.

I imagine there should be a way to disable scanning the drives?
