I have removed a PC from a domain recently. I call the server, OLDSERVER. on OLDSERVER I have a DHCP and DNS running as well. so all the AD users where getting their IP addresses from the OLDSERVER. even though I removed the computer from the domain, the PC is still getting it's IP address from OLDSERVER. I checked the advance setting in TCP IP and on IP addresses section it says "DHCP Enabled". Add, Edit, Remove buttons are greyed out. so I can not edit it or add anything else there. there is nothing in DNS tab when I click there. TCP/IP setting is on "obtain an IP address automatically".
How can I set this computer to get it's IP from the router and not from the OLDSERVER dhcp?
is this a registry problem? am I missing something here?
when I do IPconfig/All, this is what I get:

Hi,
Its greyed because you dont have administrative rites on it,
Its not clear when you say you have removed from ad have you physically removed it or just changed the domain name..
Is your router is configure for DHCP.
If it is physically removed and connected to your router and your router also supports DHCP ,
then go to command promt and give ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew.
with admin rites ..
I hope this will resolve your problem.
Regards,
Praveen
hello everybodyhe OLDSERVER.
and thanks for the advice.
I have administrative rights. I did try ipconfig/flushdns command before and had no luck. what I think the only option left for me is to disable both DNS and DHCP services on t
What I don't understand is why a stand alone computer which is no longer part of the domain on OLDSERVER still gets it's IP from the Domain controller?
Sorry was a quick post and missed those out - but in the order below , if you run those after you have de activated the old servers dhcp and also joined the PC to a workgroup , reboot when needed and then run the below commands
Also not sure if those are in the correct order but thats how I normally do it and sometimes run the first 2 commands again after the renew
