Exchange, Outlook and user profile, mailbox local storage issue

Ok, have recently set a gpo to force users to wait to download their profile from the server at logon.

Now users seem to always get the profile from the server, but occasionally the profile is created and we end up with folders in documents and settings locally

username
username.domain
username.domain.001
username.domain.002

the problem is that the outlook reference (i'm assuming in the registry) always references the username folder, so when a new one is created it comes up saying it cant access the ost in the username folder, when really it should be accessing the ost in teh latest folder


any ideas from anyone?

the time i have seen difficulties with these 001, 002 temp profile names there has been:

1) timing/dependency of relevant services starting
2) DNS misconfiguration
3) corrupt user profile

those are some places to start:

can you share exactly where you set this GPO?

user profiles are simply a copy of the xp default +3 desktop shortcuts, all users in the company recently had their profiles removed and recreated to this a couple of weeks ago


OU Structure is

domain
-company
---office1
------users
------computers
---office2
------users
------computers

The GPO is set on each office and covers both users and computers under that office

DNS, resolves fine, profiles are all stored on an SBS domain controller running dns,


what timing/dependency issues might there be?
