I have noticed that outlook does seem to do this occasionally, it seems to be related to the number of email accounts that are set up.

Browse All TopicsHi,
This is probablem I should address to a MS forum, but I'll ask it anyway.
When I send an email using MS Outlook 2007, the progress line says sending meassage 1 of 5, even though I am only sending 1 or 2 messages. It does not seem to hurt anything and does not appear to slow down the process. However, I cannot be sure that my Outlook 2007 has not been infected by some virus, trojan or whatever.
As usual, I am not sure what to do next! Please help or set my mind at rest!
Thank you,
IC

Definitely check the above suggestions are first, just to make sure it's not one of those. you may simply have emails in your outbox that aren't sending. The below is more advanced troubleshooting in the event that you actually have e-mails stuck in your outbox that you can't move/delete or can't see. (be sure to check in all of your outboxes for all of your accounts)
If you do in fact have e-mails stuck in your outbox that aren't sending (make sure you check all your outbox files if you have multiple accounts. try to move them to another folder. If you can't move them to another folder (or delete them) then,
if you're using exchange it might be a good idea to close outlook and run the scanOST on the outlook.OST file (actually, I usually rename the file and let outlook re-download everything from exchange).
If you're not using exchange, OR if you are downloading e-mail to the local computer into a PST file, there's a utility called scanPST which can be found in the same place as the scanOST file. (directories below) run scanPST and choose the outlook.pst file and see if it clears it out.
If not, it might be worth exporting your e-mail into a PST file, renaming the origional outlook.PST file, let outlook create a new one, and then import everything (maybe excluding the outbox). Exporting e-mail gives outlook a chance to build a fresh PST structure.
Be warned, if you have a large PST file, these operations can take a very long time, be paitent. After repaired, it would be a good idea to trim down the side of your e-mail by deleting undeeded files. PST files tend to get corrupted when larger than 2gb.
scanOST / ScanPST can be found in this directory: C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
the PST / OST file itself can be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
Although it says "Messages sending 1 of 5," or whatever, the 5 is actually referring to the number of email accounts you're using in Outlook. My (strong) hunch is that if you go to Tools/Options/Mail Setup/Email accounts, you'll have 5 accounts listed. And that if you add another one, the message you get when you're sending emails will say "Messages sending 1 of 6."
