It appears that this memory is in fact compatible with your system. The following links: http://www.memorystock.com/memory/DellDimension3000.html and http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Dimension%203000 describe your system as being able to use up to 2GB of RAM.

To be 100% sure, you can go here: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/my_systems_info/en/details?c=us&cs=rc956904&l=en&s=hied and enter your service tag number. You should get a breakdown of your original system specs. What you'd be looking for is the "PC" rating of them RAM (i.e. PC2700 vs PC3200)

by: JustAskMePosted on 2009-11-03 at 11:11:50ID: 25732363

I know its compatible with up-to 2GB my question is if the type of memory is good for my system

I see six specs. on which part to I need to look?

"DDR" "PC3200" "UNBUFFERED" "NON-ECC" "184-PIN" "DIMM"

by: WraithbonePosted on 2009-11-03 at 11:24:10ID: 25732486

the important parts for you is DDR or DDR2, and ECC or NON-ECC the rest is non essential for your system to boot.

by: WraithbonePosted on 2009-11-03 at 11:24:37ID: 25732491

and yes the memory is compatible.

by: JustAskMePosted on 2009-11-03 at 11:40:47ID: 25732667

Thanks so much

by: WraithbonePosted on 2009-11-03 at 11:43:45ID: 25732701

youre most welcome :)

by: scifikillrPosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:00:26ID: 25732911

No. Note the PC rating: PC2-5300 which is not what the Dimension 3000 was compatible with.

by: scifikillrPosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:00:49ID: 25732915

No = DDR2 will not work in this system.

by: JustAskMePosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:03:55ID: 25732947

by: WraithbonePosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:04:11ID: 25732950

according to dells homepage your computer uses DDR 2 memory.

if youre in doubt take a look here: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/memconfig.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

the one you linked to schould work yes.

JustAskMe: I recommend you research this more before you order anything. My findings did not align with what Wraithbone is suggesting. He is linking to the manual for the Dell Dimension 3100, not the 3000. both pages I linked to previously indicate that the supported RAM depending on the age of the Dimension 3000 is between PC2700 and 3200, all of which are DDR (not DDR2).

this is from dell.com after I entered my tag

by: WraithbonePosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:20:36ID: 25733118

in that case you need a ddr ram module. but i would recommend you to take one of your current modules out to see what it is. if it doesnt say DDR or DDR2 write down everything on it and post it here. we will be able to tell you what module to get.

by: scifikillrPosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:22:11ID: 25733145

So they're insinuating that your maximum supported amount of RAM is 1GB. I would not necessarily take that as ultimate truth, as a lot of systems do in fact support more. Given the cost of RAM from alternative locations (such as Newegg), it may not be much of a sacrifice to just buy 2GB "just in case".

However, the important thing to note is that your supported RAM is DDR PC3200 Unbuffered Non-ECC.

by: JustAskMePosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:23:32ID: 25733165

is the number after PC matters?

by: scifikillrPosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:26:03ID: 25733192

Yes, it matters.

PC3200 means "DDR 400MHz". The PC rating defines how fast the RAM is.

by: scifikillrPosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:26:23ID: 25733195

When you order the RAM, be sure to specify "DDR PC3200".

by: WraithbonePosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:26:53ID: 25733201

just write everything thats on the module here. if it does not say DDR or DDR2 we can look for the serial number and find out what module is in it right now.

by: scifikillrPosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:28:30ID: 25733219

Please be advised, this is completely unncessary. Dell has already told him what kind of RAM is supported.

by: JustAskMePosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:30:10ID: 25733235

ok the best help for me now is a link to a chip store were I couled buy tow 1 GB competible to my system...

can anyone help please?

by: WraithbonePosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:34:52ID: 25733293

i looked up the system again. your system was a dimension 3000 not the 3100. the right manual is here:

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim3000/en/SM/parts.htm#wp1076397

its a DDR module you need. The first link you provided WILL work. The second WONT. go buy the first.

by: WraithbonePosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:35:15ID: 25733297

and sorry for the confusion.

by: WraithbonePosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:36:09ID: 25733307

from the manual:

If you install a mixed pair PC2700 (DDR 333-MHz) and PC3200 (DDR 400-MHz) memory, the modules function at the slowest speed installed.

DDR!!! :)

by: JustAskMePosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:39:23ID: 25733344

ThANKS A LOT

by: scifikillrPosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:42:39ID: 25733374

Alright, to try to allay any possible confusion here, because Wraithbone is jumping all over the place.

DDR operates in its fastest mode when all modules are the same speed. Thus, his last comment about installing a mixed pair is correct, but probably not a huge deal-breaker with older systems. Since PC3200 is widely available, this should not be an issue. The reason that this won't be an issue is because you'll be replacing your existing module with 2 new ones (most likely).

Additionally, if you live in the USA, I'd highly recommend you go with a company like Newegg for this purchase. They have a GREAT track record, both in terms of customer satisfaction and shipping, as long as you use UPS 3-day, which is very cheap.

Something like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010170147%201052407862&bop=And&ActiveSearchResult=True&Order=RATING

Any of these should work just fine, just make sure you select the right size and quantity of sticks. Furthermore, if you order the wrong type, you can RMA them and re-order the correct modules.

which one do I chosse ?

by: scifikillrPosted on 2009-11-03 at 12:53:25ID: 25733484

I recommend these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231047

I have used G.Skill for years, and they're very highly reviewed.

by: JustAskMePosted on 2009-11-03 at 13:24:15ID: 25733880

Thank I placed the order finnely....

If you feel that it is appropriate to award me with any points for the solution, I will gladly accept them. That being said, I will accept your decision.
