Error while MDAC 2.81 in XP SP3 machine

Hi,

I am trying to Install Symantec Desktop and Laptop agent in one of my windows XP SP3 system, it gives an error msg like "Pls install MDAC 2.8 or later" So I downloaded MDAC 2.81 from microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=78cac895-efc2-4f8e-a9e0-3a1afbd5922e&displaylang=en) and trying to install it gives another error " "This setup does not support installing on this operating system".  What could be the reason. How I can install MDAC 2.81IN my system

Hi,

XP SP3 already has MDAC version which is much newer than what you are installing.

Sometimes backup Exec can become very stupid and not detect the correct software installed. Try creating a customized installation with REQUIREDMDACVERSION=2.7 option, this way it will look for MDAC 2.7 only and hopefully finds the higher version installed on your computer.

"Windows XP Installation  
Note: You MUST install the latest service pack for Windows XP before you can install MDAC or JET 4.0.  
To apply the latest critical patches and updates to your version of Windows, to to the Windows Update Site at Microsoft.  For both performance and security reasons, you should be sure you are always running the latest critical patches and updates for Windows.Step 1:Download and install MDAC 2.8.  Earlier versions can cause performance problems or memory links.      
     Download MDAC     2.8 from Microsoft
    (mdac_typ.exe, 5427 KB)    
 Follow the Microsoft instructions for installing and reboot your computer     when you are done.       Step 2:Download and install JET 4.0 SP8 OLEDB.  Earlier versions can cause performance problems or memory     leaks.      
     Download     JET 4.0 SP8 OLEDB for Windows XP from Microsoft
    (Jet40SP8_WXP.exe, 2893 KB)    
 Follow the Microsoft instructions for installing and reboot your computer     when you are done.

Hi all


1. Open C:\windows\inf
2. Find for mdac.inf
3. Right click on the file and select Install
4. Browse for file "Adcjavas" from Windows XP CD- I386 Folder
5. Install with default
6. Restart the system


This one resolved my issue
