I need to know if is possible to catch a signal/event sent from a scanner BENQ 5000 SCANNER connected to USB port.

I'm developing a JAVA SCANNER on Windows XP.  My JAVA app already can scan documents but what I need is when a user press the "scan button" in the scanner, the java app starts its execution and NOT the default scanner app.

It is possible do that, and if is possible, how can I do it?

NOTE: sorry about my english, I'm still learning.
