Poll Computers for Performance Information

Hi I support about 100 users, and I was looking for a quick way to determine the performance of their machines. Essentially I would like to determine the worst 10% of the machines based on their usage, not their hardware, to justify replacing those machines or upgrading them. I'm not looking to purchase anything more than $50-$100 on this, and I am willing to code a solution if I have to.

I thought about using performance logs, but there are 100 machines. I would have to script something to gather those logs. I also thought about snmp, but I don't know any of any software that's more performance inventory based, rather than focused on networking.

Any ideas?

We are already using nagios, its great don't get me wrong, but its is a little difficult to configure (just a heads up to anyone else reading this). Spiceworks seems like an excellent package. I'll be giving that a try on monday. Thank you Very Much!
