Question

XP pro SP2 continuous reboot

Asked by: Fast_Freddy

Windows begins to start get to splash screen then goes to the safe mode option screen.
If safe mode is selected it gets to SPTD.sys and reboots. All 3 safe modes and Last known good config end at the same spot.
On Advanced Options Menu tried Boot Logging, VGA mode,

It would only start in Debugging mode.  But then freezes before you can make any selection.

At this point, the easiest thing to do is to do a repair installation of WinXP. You will be able to retain all your files and user settings.

Are you running Alcohol or Daemon Tools?

If you are then you may have to delete SPTD.sys from the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder

You could probably do this using a live Linux CD such as Knoppix  http://www.knoppix.org/

As suggested need to do a repair install unfortunately, something important has become corrupt and since you can't get into safe mode you can't do a system restore etc.

Possibly due to unsafe shutdown or virus?
