Try Start-Run-SFC. There may be corrupt system files that are keeping you from starting it the other two ways.

Browse All TopicsI am running XP Pro on an IBM ThinkPad. I know of at least four ways to load Task Manager:
1. Right-click on the Windows taskbar and select Task Manager.
2. Start --> Run --> taskmgr.exe.
3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and click on the Task Manager button.
4. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc and the Task Manager will load automatically.
The first two methods work fine. If I try to do it using method #3 or 4, the following error occurs:
taskmgr.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150004). Click on OK to terminate the application.
I noticed this happens regardless of who is logged in. Would anyone know how to fix this?

SFC did not appear to find anything that needed to be repaired. Regarding Control Panel, is there anything in particular that I should be looking at? I mean Hibernation and APM are enabled, but I have it set to never go into hibernate or standby automatically; CPU power and PCI bus management are both set to automatic. Anything else to look at?
Say frankly I not good in computer stuff but try first.
1.Click “Help” at “Start Menu”.
2.Click the “Index” tab.
3.Type in the keyword to find:
Application error
4.select all subentries in the list to view.
In win 2000 there is event viewer (Event Viewer maintains logs about program, security, and system events on your compute). Event Viewer can be used to view and manage the event logs, gather information about hardware and software problems, and monitor Windows 2000 security events.
I not sure whether win xp had event viewer so repeat the 12 steps and type in the keyword to find: event viewer
Hope it solve your problem.
Hi,
I believe here is an answer to your question. In short, you need to uninstall pcAnywhere or get an updated version.

After reading the page further, I realized that I also had Novell Client 4.82 loaded. If I remember correctly, I noticed that the problem happened after I loaded the client. Then when I erased and recreated XP, I didn't load the client (I use it exclusively away from the office, so I figured I don't need the Novell client loaded). After all this time, it finally makes sense.

2mrchio,
I would suggest that you may try to inspect: -
(1) The control panel, performance and maintenance, power option, Enabled the Hibernate and Enable the APM.
