The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Windows Explorer starts on login

A windows explorer window opens when any user logs in on my computer at home (winxp). It also happens at work now (win2000). This did not happen on either machine when I first installed the OS. I've looked in the obvious places for links to this application, but I have failed to find a way to stop it!

I have tried looking in:
  1. the startup folder
  2. the registry under HKCU/.../Run...
                        HKLM/.../Run...
                        HKCU/.../Explorer (looking for DesktopProcess, it does not exist here)
     as well as a few other places like active-x startup keys etc
  3. win.ini, ...
I haven't found any references to explorer.exe in any of these.

Other details:
The XP machine opens windows explorer in the default "My Documents" folder, but the 2000 one opens in "System32"
I'm not positive, but the 2000 machine may have started this problem when a network drive mapping batch file was added (run from the startup folder)
I found some info on the web that shows the DesktopProcess key is what fixed the problem for someone. This key is in a different place on my machines (both) eg HKCU/.../explorer/advanced and hasn't helped me so far (I've tried a few mods)
