The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. a few concerns: Win98 FE/SE; used Microsoft Backup  | Dynamic Disk Overlay | FDISK | Debug | Norton Ghost

Client purchased new PC and refurbished 6 Gb HDD.  The 'older' system is being fitted with the 6 Gb HDD and the 20 Gb in the 'older' system is going to the new 2.4 Ghz 533 FSB system.  (recycling :)  6 Gb HDD *was* partitioned to one for OpSys (Win 98 second edition) and other for data.  Performed DEBUG script to erase partition table and then used a Norton Ghost reimage file for a 6 Gb HDD.  Next slaved the 6 Gb to the 20 Gb on the Windows First Edition system and selected FORMAT from the right click drop down option in My Computer in Windows First Edition.  Now drive is ready.  Created backup using Microsoft Backup in Windows First Edition on 20 Gb drive and then restored to the recently formatted by Win 98 First Edition 6 Gb drive.  Removed 20 Gb from ATA bus and changed jumper to master for 6 Gb.

On boot up BIOS recognized FUJITSU 6 Gb drive and then: "Sector not found after reading drive c:"
By bootable floppy, went to FDISK and found that partition table states:
Current Fixed Drive: 1 Mbytes: 6142 System FAT32, usage 100% and Total Disk Space is 473 Mb

473 Mb was the c: partition before the debug and Norton Ghost activity. The drive is 6 Gb.  I don't want to have to tell my client that they can't use this 6 Gb drive (recycled) and must purchase a new HDD.  

Note: Symantec advised that Norton Ghost does not support creating images of Hard Drives with Dymamic Disk Overlay as the 20 Gb was set up with using Maxtor Utility.

What Next?
Taking suggestions and trying to save nice 6 Gb drive from landfill (at least for now)...
