solaris Hangup

Hi,

  We have a solaris 2.6 - there have been occasions in the past few months wherein the machine attains a complete-hang state overnight ; this forces us to do a force-boot next morning.Now a part of the investigation we look through the dmesg and /var/adm/messages after the reboot - but there seems to no apparent problems logged in there.

  We have Oracle8 running on this box- but it does not dump any trace file either - nor does the  alert log indicate anything.

 What are the additonal audit setups/configurations/logs that we can modify to trace back  the source of such outages.

 Additionally , since we have overnight compilations sharing licenses over the network - it would be very helpful if someone could help with network audits too.

 Pointers to relelvant articles would be much appreciated.

U may need to run syslogd( or equivalent ) daemon to log all systems messages, it ma yhelp u to discover source of problems on ur solaris machine!

After entering the cron jobs to rotate the logs in /var/adm and /var/log,we find that the main cause of the hang has been big dumps into the /var/tmp by certain processes.Can someone suggest the reasons as what causes such dumps into the /var/tmp area.Is it related to insufficient swap space causing disk writes by processes which subsequently abort
